We are the Champions:
Senior members of Bearsden Bowling Club celebrating after winning the Glasgow
Bowling Association Championship Finals for the first time in 30 years at Stepps
Bowling Club on Saturday 4 July 2009.
The
team of (left to right) Bill Millroy, Jim Dempster, Ian Bowie, and Frank Kennedy
(Skip), beat 64 other teams from across the region to be crowned champions. In a
close final, they defeated Barr Stroud 13-11. Club president Walter Irvine said
"It is some 30 years since we won the trophy. This is a magnificent achievement
and we are all immensely proud of them".
After the presentation Walter is seen striding out with the cup, no doubt
heading for a pawn shop to
boost his beer money.
The club finished in the bottom half of the table in the
Kelvin Allander league, although the seniors finished as runners up in the Senior
League.
We won all of our friendly matches bar one this year.
Invitation Triples -25th July 2009
In what was the best weather for bowling this summer, 24 teams from across
the district and Lesmahagow took part in the Bearsden Open Invitation Triples.
In spite of the best efforts of all the other teams that took part, both teams
from Singer Bowling Club won through to the final.
The photograph shows: The Winning Singer triple with the trophy and prizes.

Drew Hearton in accepting the trophy, thanked on behalf of all the Clubs
who played in the competition, President Walter Irvine, and all at Bearsden
who had made the day possible: match committee, caterers, bar staff, and the
sponsors.
The Club would like to thank Whyte and Mackay for their
sponsorship, as well as Jonathan Harvey (who sent a team), Durashield
Windows and Naylor Industries.
We hosted the Doig Trophy (played for by the three Bearsden bowling clubs)
and managed to win it with 64 shots to Killermont's 61 and Westerton's 50.
