A Summary of the 2008 season
This was generally a good season in the playing sense despite the poor
weather in the later part of the season. Our representives in the Glasgow
and Scottish championships did not get very far, although David Macdonald and
Bill Taylor reached the SBA district final in the Pairs and Ken Carlin lost
narrowly in the Junior district semi-final.
In the GBA competitions, rinks from the club reached the semi-finals of the
Centenary, Charity and Coronation cups. The rink of Peter Peebles, Gillies Lang,
Alistair Gunn and Gordon Smith went on to win the Coronation Cup for the first
time in the Club's history.
In the Kelvin Allander League we ended up in our usual mid table position,
but we did win the Senior section of the Kelvin Allander League
comfortably.
The Glasgow League teams found it difficult to win away from home, and were
relegated to Division 3.
A
very successful Open triples Competition was held in July thanks to the
efforts of Arthur Dalley in chasing up entries and sponsorship. The winning
triple, somewhat unusually, was one of our own teams, consisting of David Winks,
Jim Macphie and Tom Hamilton.
Finals day at the end of August saw our youngest ever Champion, with 17 year
old Kenneth Carlin defeating Jim Macphie. So much for an "old man's game"!
In the President's trophy, David Linley defeated Gerry Carter.
