Season 2020

President David Brown is a lonely figure on Opening Day.

OPENING DAY 29th May 2020

Finally the season gets underway, albeit in a strictly limited way due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Please  read the safety rules regarding green and bowls hut access by clicking here.

Some other suggestions to further limit the risk of transferring the virus :
Each player in a singles match (or the leads in a pairs match) should be responsible for one mat. One player setting it at end 1,3,5 etc, while the other player sets it at the even numbered ends. If the person throwing the jack is not the one setting the mat, they can indicate how far out they want it set. This would eliminate the need to keep wiping the mat when the lead changes.
Each player could use their own jack. (The only problem here is that when you win an end, you would probably find that 'your' jack is at the other end of the rink!)
When an end is complete, the winner should collect the jack and his/her bowls first, then their opponent can collect their bowls, rather than kicking them all back together.

To those members who have already paid their fees a big thank you. If you have not paid yet you can still pay your fees, either by cheque direct to the Treasurer or Bank Transfer

Some things never change!

Thanks are due to David Macdonald for not only organising the booking system for playing, but setting up singles and pairs Knockout tournaments during the latter part of the season. Although there was a very much reduced entry this year the finals were played in fine weather at the end of September over three days. On the first day Corina and Forbes Robertson won the mixed pairs. On Saturday Corina and partner Ginny Thorburn won the ladies pairs and Walter Irvine and Chris Lebessis won the Gents pairs. The singles finals were held on Sunday when Walter Irvine defeated Bill Barr in the gents and Corina Roberston completed a trio of victories by defeating Anne Blain in a close contest.
